Description

Heike Schmidt-Posthaus is Professor at the Institute for Fish and Wildlife Health at the University of Bern, Switzerland where she heads the Fish Division. Prof Schmidt-Posthaus has special education in Veterinary Pathology (diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathology, ECVP) and Aquatic Animal Health (diplomate of the ECAAH).
Her activities deal with research, teaching and diagnostics. Prof Schmidt-Posthaus is involved in graduate and post-graduate teaching on national and international level. She is head of the reference center for notifiable diseases in water-borne animals in Switzerland and heads the competence center for fish and crayfish diseases. Heike Schmidt-Posthaus is recognized as world expert in fish diseases (top 0.24%) by PubMed’s Expertscape.
Her research interest focuses on various aspects of fish and crayfish health, such as fish pathology, fish parasitology and fish immunology, including both wild and farmed fish as well as crayfish pathology and immunology. Prof Schmidt-Posthaus has mentored more than 20 PhD or master students, and co-authored approximately 100 peer-reviewed publications. Prof Schmidt-Posthaus is Associate Editor of the Journal of Fish Diseases.
