Description

Dr Elena Riccardi graduated as a vet from the University of Milan, Italy, in 2002 and she started working at the Department of Pathology, University of Milan, firstly as a student fellow for the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research, then as a PhD student and then as a pathology resident in 2004. Her research topic was focused on tumours of the genital system of the dog, mainly testicular and prostatic cancer and ovarian tumours. During that time, she was also involved in the post-mortem examination and histopathology diagnostic services of small and exotic animal species, including immunohistochemistry.

In 2007 she moved to CRO Accelera S.r.l. (Nerviano, Italy) as a toxicological pathologist, becoming Head of the Pathology Department in 2013. Elena has also worked as a pathology consultant for BiEsseA, a private diagnostic histopathology laboratory in Milan. She passed the European College of Veterinary Pathologist (ECVP) board exam in 2010. Elena is now working, remotely, for IDEXX Ltd, Wetherby (UK) as a diagnostic anatomic pathologist since 2014.

Elena has a special interest in genital pathology and oral pathology and has published and presented in these fields. In 2018 she also had a sabbatical at UC Davis working with Professor Brian Murphy on gingival pathology.

Elena is a member of the ESVP (European Society of Veterinary Pathology), ECVP (European College of Veterinary Pathologists), ISVD (International Society of Veterinary Dermatopathology), ESTP (European Society of Toxicologic pathology), AIPVET (Associazione Italiana di Patologia Veterinaria), and MRCVS (member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon). She is also member of the board of the ESVP, at first as a councillor and, since 2021, with the role of secretary.

In her free time, Elena likes travel, hiking, photography (strictly analog) and handcrafts.
