Nicolau Beckmann studied Physics at the University of São Paulo in Brazil and earned his PhD in Biophysics at the Biocenter of the University of Basel in Switzerland. His main interest is in the application of translational imaging to pharmacological studies. He is an Associate Director in the Diseases of Aging & Regenerative Medicine Department of Novartis Biomedical Research in Basel. Prior to this function he has been a visiting researcher at Siemens Medical Systems in Germany and at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. Nicolau obtained the Habilitation in Biophysics and is also a lecturer at the University of Basel. He is in the editorial board of the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Aging Brain, Frontiers in Pharmacology and Frontiers in Physiology. Additionally, he has been reviewer for several journals including Nature Communications, PLoS One, Scientific Reports, Journal of Neuroscience, Theranostics, JPET and JoVE as well as for multiple institutions including the American Alzheimer’s Association, UK Medical Research Council, Israel Science Foundation, INSERM, Italian Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis or the Swiss National Research Foundation. Nicolau has received awards from the Research Foundation of the State São Paulo and the Brazilian Research Council (CNPQ) in Brazil, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany, the Swiss National Research Foundation and the Swiss 3R’s Foundation. Nicolau is member of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the European Molecular Imaging Society.
