Description

Matt is an Associate Professor of Translational Toxicology and Pharmacology and Royal Society Industry Fellow based at the University of Exeter, in the UK. After 11 years spent in industry, he moved to the University of Exeter 10 years ago, where he continued his research focussed on the development and application of zebrafish-based approaches in drug discovery and development, and studies on the effects of human pharmaceuticals in the environment. Matt has a strong commitment to the 3Rs and has actively supported the development and use of numerous embryo, cell and plant-based approaches to aid understanding of the effects of chemicals in non-target species. In his talk he will provide an overview of the work he has undertaken over the last 15+ years using the larval zebrafish for detecting and understanding the nature of chemical-induced seizures to aid human drug safety assessment.
