Richard joined AstraZeneca in 2022 and leads the Global Pathology team within Clinical Pharmacology & Safety Sciences which  provides pathology and histology expertise to assess nonclinical efficacy and safety of projects using biopharm, cell therapy, small molecule and other modalities across a wide range of therapy areas. He has a keen interest in applying digital pathology, image analysis and AI to generate quantitative data to improve biological understanding, translational and predictive value of models, decision making and efficiency of medicine development.  
Richard qualified in Veterinary medicine from the University of Cambridge, completed a DPhil at Oxford in experimental pathology and immunology, was Head of the UK Pathology department at GSK from 2014 to 2022 and is board certified in pathology (FRCPath, DipECVP) and toxicology (DABT).
