Description

I grew up in the very hot U. S. state of Arizona and was happy to move to Colorado to pursue my DVM degree. I received my DVM degree from Colorado State University in 1997. After practicing veterinary medicine in Arizona for 3 and a half years, I moved to North Carolina to begin an anatomic pathology residency at North Carolina State University, which I completed in 2003. After my residency, I earned a position as a post-doctoral fellow in the toxicologic pathology training program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences headed by Dr. David Malarkey. After earning my board certification in 2004, I worked as a contract pathologist for the NTP for 2 years before securing a position as a full-time federal employee in the National Toxicology Program in 2007. I received my PhD degree from North Carolina State University in 2010, where I studied the pulmonary toxicity of carbon nanotubes under the tutelage of Dr. Jamie Bonner. I am the author or co-author of 40 journal articles, over 20 NTP reports, and 5 book chapters. I am also the editor-in-chief of the DTT Nonneoplastic Lesion Atlas. I have participated in several IARC working groups, numerous STP committees, and am a member of the INHAND Global Editorial and Steering Committee. I have spent my entire 22-year toxicologic pathology career with the U. S. Government, working in the Division of Translational Toxicology (formerly the National Toxicology Program) at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences where I now lead the Pathology Evaluation and Peer Review Group. As head of the group, I manage the pathology peer review process for the NTP and the NIEHS.
