Giovanni Pellegrini

Giovanni is a veterinary pathologist by training, with 25-year experience in experimental and toxicological pathology across both industry and academia. He holds a PhD in Pharmacology obtained from the Centre for Drug Safety Science - University of Liverpool and he is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists.

From 2014 to 2018, Giovanni led the Laboratory for Animal Model Pathology, a Comparative Pathology Unit at the VetSuisse Faculty, University of Zurich. Between 2018 and 2022, Giovanni served as Senior Director of Pathology at AstraZeneca in Sweden. There he supported safety and efficacy activities in the Cardiovascular/Renal/Metabolic and Oncology portfolio with a special interest in pathology of new modalities (RNA therapeutics, gene therapy and cell therapy) and animal models of human diseases. These days, Giovanni heads the Pathology group (both clinical and anatomic) at Evotec in Verona, Italy. He's penned or co-penned over 50 publications in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals. Since November 2020, he's been co-chairing the British Society of Toxicologic Pathology Education Subcommittee.
