Description

Dr. Sunish Mohanan is Senior Director of Research Pathobiology at Gilead Sciences, where he leads discovery, safety, and clinical translational pathology initiatives. He earned his BVSc from Kerala Agricultural University, an MS from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and a PhD in Comparative Biomedical Sciences from Cornell University, with research focused on cancer biology and inflammation. He completed a veterinary anatomic pathology residency at Wake Forest School of Medicine, earning ACVP board certification, followed by a research fellowship in smooth muscle molecular pathology at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Gilead, he held pathology roles at GlaxoSmithKline and Eli Lilly, leading nonclinical safety assessments and biomarker strategy for oncology and inflammation therapeutics and clinical trials.
Dr. Mohanan is an active contributor to the toxicologic pathology community, served as President of the SOT Comparative Toxicology & Veterinary Pathology Specialty Section, and past member of the STP Scientific & Regulatory Policy Committee and current Chair of the INHAND Hematolymphoid Working Group. He has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and co-authored the chapter on Pathology of the Immune System in Haschek and Rousseaux's Handbook of Toxicologic Pathology.
