Richard Goodwin is the Global Head of Predictive AI & Data within BioPharmaceuticals R&D at AstraZeneca, where he leads the strategy and application of artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, data science, and predictive modelling to accelerate drug discovery and development. Based at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, he leads a global multidisciplinary organisation focused on transforming how data, technology, and scientific insights are leveraged across the R&D value chain to improve decision-making and patient outcomes.
He began his AstraZeneca career as a postdoctoral scientist, and over more than 15 years has held a series of scientific, strategic, and leadership roles spanning drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, data science, and digital transformation. His career reflects a passion for combining scientific innovation with emerging technologies to solve complex challenges in pharmaceutical research and development. Alongside his industry leadership, Richard holds an Honorary Professorship at University of Glasgow. He is an advocate for the responsible adoption of AI in biopharmaceutical R&D and is committed to building diverse, highly skilled teams that bridge science, data, and technology to deliver meaningful impact for patients worldwide.
