Dr. Pierre Savatier is a researcher in the fields of stem cell biology and developmental biology. His work focuses on the molecular mechanisms regulating pluripotency, cell differentiation, and early embryonic development, with major contributions to understanding how stem cells maintain their identity and can be directed toward specific lineages.
He obtained his PhD in biological sciences from the University of Lyon, France, where he studied genome evolution in primates. He subsequently carried out postdoctoral research at Oxford University, investigating early mouse embryo development and pluripotent stem cells. He later established his own research group at the École Normale Supérieure in Lyon, focusing on cell cycle regulation in embryonic stem cells and neural progenitors.
In 2004, he joined the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) in Lyon and contributed to the creation of the Stem Cell and Brain Research Institute, where he currently leads the team “Pluripotent Stem Cells in Mammals.”
His research explores the regulation of pluripotency across species, including rabbits, non-human primates, and humans, as well as the generation of chimeric models using engineered stem cells. He is an active member of international collaborations and research networks.
