Dr James Baily joined Charles River Laboratories in 2015 following completion of a combined PhD in cardiac regeneration and mouse phenotyping residency at the University of Edinburgh. Over the past 11 years, he has played a central role in developing the Discovery Pathology and Digital Pathology services at Charles River Laboratories (CRL) Edinburgh, while also contributing to the evaluation of regulatory toxicology studies.
Currently serving as Senior Scientific Director of Pathology, Dr Baily provides scientific leadership and oversight across investigative and discovery pathology, molecular histology, and image analysis projects. He has a strong interest in the application of pathology and quantitative image analysis endpoints to cell‑based in vitro models and works closely with the CRL Edinburgh Discovery Pharmacology group. In this capacity, he supports a broad range of projects using advanced air–liquid interface models to inform translational and mechanistic research.
